Hop Pellets - The Practical Solution for Intense Hop Aroma
Our hop pellets are the ideal choice for brewers who prioritize maximum aroma. The gentle pelletization process preserves the characteristic aroma of the hops, while their convenient form allows for easy dosing and storage. Immerse yourself in the world of hop pellets and discover how these innovative products can give your beer a distinctive note.
Manufacturing Hop Pellets
Hop pellets are made from dried hop cones. These are carefully selected beforehand to ensure a consistently high quality of the final product. In the first step, the hop cones are ground to extract the desired aromas and bitter substances. The ground hop mixture is then pressed into small pellets and compressed in a special, extremely gentle process. The pellets are formed under pressure to ensure uniform size and consistency. After pressing, the hop pellets are carefully packaged to preserve their freshness and quality.
Type 90 Hop Pellets
In the production of Type 90 hop pellets, coarse impurities are cleaned through a sieving process and dried to a moisture content of about 8 - 10%. Then, a milling process turns the raw hops into a powder. The powder is pressed through a die - creating the hop pellets. The next step involves packaging in aluminum composite foil with the addition of a CO2/N2 gas mixture. This ensures that no quality-damaging oxygen is present in the foil. From 100 kg of raw hops, about 90 kg of hop pellets are produced, hence the term "Type 90".
Type 45 Hop Pellets
The initial steps in the production of Type 45 hop pellets are identical to those of Type 90. However, the resulting powder is then sieved over belts at -35 °C. During this process, the lupulin glands lose their stickiness. The lupulin separates from the hop residues. This leads to a mechanical enrichment of the alpha acid content. Later addition of hop residues allows the alpha acid content to be adjusted according to customer preference, e.g., to 10.0%. The pelletization and packaging are the same as for Type 90 hop pellets. From about 100 kg of raw hops, 45 kg of hop pellets are produced - hence the pellets are called "Type 45".
Advantages of Hop Pellets
Hop pellets are available in a variety of varieties and aroma profiles, allowing you to select the perfect option for your brewing project. Whether fruity, floral, spicy, or bitter, there is a wide selection of hop pellets to meet your individual taste preferences.
The compact form of the pellets facilitates dosing and allows precise control over the aroma and bitterness of your beer. You can precisely measure the amount of pellets used to achieve consistent results.
Compared to other hop products, pellets take up less space and are therefore easier to store and transport. This is particularly advantageous for breweries with limited space.
Hop pellets are also more durable as they are less prone to oxidation and spoilage. This allows you to store your pellets longer without losing quality.
What to Consider with Hop Pellets
When purchasing hop pellets, it is important to consider the variety, origin, and alpha acid content to ensure that the pellets meet your expectations and your brewing style. Different varieties and origins can offer different aromas and bitter substances, so it is important to make the right choice.
Also, follow the manufacturer's dosing recommendations and adjust the amount of pellets used according to your brewing recipe. An overdose can lead to an overly bitter or aromatic beer, while an underdose only delivers a weak taste experience.
Proper storage in a cool, dry, and airtight container ensures the freshness and quality of the pellets over a longer period. Therefore, avoid exposing the pellets to direct sunlight or high temperatures as this can impair their durability.
